"Earth & Women"
- the pilot - was born out of my interest in women's projects
and love of the Southwest. (For the latter, we may thank
all those Roy Rogers movies and several photo tours to the
area.) Rette, a friend and former colleague, moved to Arizona
and was seeking alternative building ideas. She found Solar
Haven, home of Mindy and Jim Phypers, and went to their
demonstration of the advantages of "green building"
and self-installed methods of living off the grid. Rette
told me about their website, and Jim and I began corresponding.
We both liked the idea of a documentary. After much research
and pre-planning, an all-female crew taped the Phypers'
wall raising in May 2001. The principal footage was shot
using solar power.
My life was changed by the women I met in Arizona. Now I
do something every day for the Earth. The future of the
series "Earth & Women" depends on finding
a production partner and a financial partner. I envision
a 10-part series on cable TV which will depict other uncommon
women who are helping save the Earth by their actions and
lifestyles.
